Weekend in Geneva

I'm just kicking off another stretch of crazy travel, so I have been savoring my time in Geneva lately.  This past weekend was basically perfect - pizza and game night with friends, morning runs, brunch, dinner with friends, and a day trip to Annecy on a surprisingly sunny Sunday.  Bliss!

I lost.. both at Settlers and at Qwirkle!

I actually went for a run on both Saturday and Sunday mornings!

We saw these random Asian tourists shooting a video of them eating churros.  Amazing.

Weekend in Milan

Hello all!  I'm back in Tallinn this week for the first time since March.  It's nice to be here again, but it is definitely getting very cold already up here.  I had to go a little light on my packing because I am flying to London on Friday for the NFL game at Wembley this weekend, so I needed to make sure I had enough space in my bag for Seahawks gear :)

Anyway.  Last night was the first time I had been on a plane in a month!  That's not to say that I have been home all the time though.  Earlier in October, I took the train down to Milan for a long weekend.  We saw a Dave Matthews Band concert (my first one in about a decade), did some sightseeing, and went to the Expo.  After quite a few weeks of grey skies in Geneva, it felt good to be in the sunshine once again!

Dinner on the train

This was one of only two Italian meals that we ate :)

Crowded metro on our way to the concert

The DMB concert was a really good show - it's amazing how ageless he is.  What was interesting was how different of an experience this was compared to all the other Dave shows I've been to.  I haven't been to see him in years, but I used to go pretty much every summer.  Back then, it was always an outdoor show during the Florida summer - complete with plenty of tailgating and rain.  This time, the event was so incredibly civilized.  We sat in our seats the entire time!  I guess I'm getting old haha :)

Reading updates

Hello friends!  Tonight, I'm heading to book club, where we will be talking about All the Light We Cannot See - a book I really enjoyed!  Since I got rid of my Netflix subscription, I've been doing a ton of reading.. here is a little list of books I've enjoyed recently!

Crazy Rich Asians - hilarious book for anyone who is Asian or anyone who has lived in Asia

Americanah - a really excellent book about immigrants, race, and America

Why Not Me? - I liked this second Mindy Kaling book much more than her first one.  This season of The Mindy Project is not really doing it for me though....

Age of Ambition: Chasing Fortune, Truth, and Faith in the New China - really excellent book about modern China by a journalist who spent eight years there

After Visiting Friends: A Son's Story - how well do we ever really know the people in our lives?

Food Rules: An Eater's Manual - hooray vegetables!

Zurich Oktoberfest

Bonjour friends and happy Saturday!  The weather here in Geneva is not very nice today, but I'm actually feeling a little under the weather, so I don't mind too much.  I spent the majority of this past week at a work training outside of Zurich, and I somehow picked up a bit of a cold.  Hopefully I will be better soon!

As I told you last week, I took the train over to Zurich on Sunday afternoon to go to the Zurich Oktoberfest!  This was my first time to Zurich (shockingly), and although I wish that I had gotten to spend more time exploring the city, the Oktoberfest was a super fun way to spend a Sunday evening!  This was also my first Oktoberfest experience, and although my German is incredibly limited, I had a great time hanging out with everyone.

Super fun!

Cassie and I talk pretty regularly during the work week, and sometimes we marvel at how different our experiences are even though we are working for the same company.  The French side and the German side really are totally different places - so interesting!

Last week

Bonjour friends!  It is a sunny Sunday morning in Geneva, and I have been home for the past nine days!  It has been a great stretch!  This past week I was able to:

- cook food and eat at home (!!)
- hang out with my friends
- make some new friends (well - soon to be friends, I suppose)
- enjoy my first fondue of the season
- hit a Swiss wine festival
- do tons of laundry
- finally take my dry cleaning in (51 francs for a suit and a sweater ugh)
- change out my summer clothes for winter clothes
- exercise (but not a lot)
- watch The Mindy Project (thanks Court!)
- finish watching The Newsroom, season 2

It's was glorious.  Today I am getting on the train to head over to Zurich, where I will spend the afternoon at the Zurich Oktoberfest!  I'm attending a work training until Thursday, but I am looking forward to spending some fun times with my Zurich peeps!
