Lately

Ugh hi.  I know I've been absent from this space for quite a while, and I don't really have a good excuse... I've just been out living!  Things have been busy, in a good way, and I'm ready for vacation!  Luckily, I'm boarding a plane on Thursday morning to go meet up with some of my favorite peeps!  In the meantime, here are some random musings about life lately.

The lake is so beautiful this time of year.  Growing up in Florida, I was very much a beach person and never understood the appeal of lakes.  Why would you want to be at a lake when the ocean was so much better??  Pontoon boats in Nashville started to show me a bit of what lake-life was all about, but living in Geneva and having the lake in the center of the city is amazing.

Speaking of leisure time, I've been reading a ton, including this book at the recommendation of my friend Katie.  As the title implies, "Overwhelmed" is about busy people being busy and struggling to deal.  And do you know what my overwhelming reaction to a lot of this book was?  I feel so lucky that I don't feel that way.  Obviously, not being married or having kids automatically eliminates a lot of the areas that people in this book find difficult to balance.  After all, I have a pretty small household and really only need to worry about me!  But I also was thinking a lot about how grateful I am to be at this place in life where I feel like my life is full of good things but I don't feel overwhelmed by it.  Hooray for happiness :)

Another thing I've been feeling lately - sick!  I don't think I ever fully recovered from the cold I had in Romania, and one of my recent house guests was a little bit sick as well, so I'm back to fighting this little bug.  I feel like I've been sick more often since moving to Europe.  I'm not sure what it is?  This past weekend, we had a company away-day at a hotel spa in Valais, and I spent a good chunk of Saturday morning hanging out in the various steam rooms (so many! so cool!) in the spa.  That seemed to really help clear up my sinuses and my chest for a while, so maybe my body is just missing humid air??  That can't be it, right?

Ok, enough emoting.  I have also been eating some delicious foods lately!  Summer produce is so delicious, and after stuffing my face with pastries and bistro food in Paris, I've tried to eat a lot of good fresh foods in these past few weeks.  Just in time to head to Italy and feast on pasta, pizza, and gelato later this week!

Yogurt, berries, banana, and oats!

I love El Salad!  Their food truck is parked near one of my clients on Wednesdays, but I also had a chance to finally visit their shop!  Yum veggies!

Sunday falafel - so delicious!

Joan, Jonathan, Kat, and I had a lovely last dinner in Geneva together at Brasserie Lipp.  I started with this artichoke with three dipping sauces!

Octopus!!

Oats, chia seeds, berries, and almond butter!

Ok, that's all for now.  I may not get a chance to write again before July, as I am having a good-bye dinner (sniff!) with Ashley tomorrow night, and I fly out early Thursday morning.  Hope everyone has a great Fourth of July holiday!  Ciao!

An American in Paris

Bonsoir everyone!  I'm popping in to write a quick post before I head out to my French class tonight. I just got back to Geneva this morning after spending a lovely weekend in Paris!

I had originally planned to come to Paris to run the Nike Women's 15K, but earlier in the week, I learned that I needed a "medical certificate" stating that I was allowed to run races in order to participate!  Apparently, this is quite common in France, but I had no idea until about Tuesday.  Given that I haven't been doing much running, and the fact that a bunch of friends decided to join my trip in Paris, it didn't really seem worth it to me to go through the hassle of getting the medical certificate.  I just said "c'est la vie" and decided to enjoy a weekend away!

The weekend turned into a birthday celebration for Brian.  He was working in London for the past few weeks, so this was a great chance to celebrate in a fun city before he headed back to Singapore!  We did a ton of walking around and exploring some of the various neighborhoods in Paris.  And of course, because my friend Cassie loves markets - we hit the Marché President Wilson on Saturday morning.  I was really impressed with the variety and quality of the stuff at the market!

There was TONS of variety here!

Escargots!

Farm fresh :)

We spent all day Saturday roaming the streets, popping into small cafés when we were hungry or thirsty, and just enjoying the beautiful weather.

hahaha

We stumbled across a random parade!  The band was playing "Hey Baby" which brought back a rush of Lionette nostalgia :)

We had been worried that a lot of restaurants would be really crowded on Saturday night because the French Open was in town, so we took a recommendation from a couple of friends and booked a table at Le Bistrot Paul Bert.  It was delicious!!

I have a cousin who lives in Paris, and she was able to join us for dinner!  It was fun catching up with her, as we don't see each other much at all.  After dinner, we headed out for a few celebratory birthday drinks before seeing a bit more of the city via Uber.

On Sunday, we looked at more touristy things!

I saw some runners and thought it may have been the race that I had signed up for!  (It wasn't)

We actually sat in the Luxembourg Gardens for a bit in the afternoon and just ate some fruit and cookies while people watching and enjoying the scenery.  I really love this type of laid back afternoon.  It feels very European :)

We saw four brides being photographed over the weekend.  They were all Asian!

Cousins!

Over the weekend, I tried to use my French skills whenever possible, and while I do think that I'm getting better.. most times when I said something, people would ask me to repeat myself and had a hard time understanding me.  I think it's a combination of my poor pronunciation or my awkward grammatical constructs.  Oh well.  Off to class now - practice makes (not nearly) perfect!
